Oscars Predictions 2018: Best Lead Actress

The top female acting award is next on our list. Who takes the Academy award for best actress? We have our say.

Nominees:

Caryn

Frances McDormand – Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

Frances McDormand was one of the highlights of a film I didn’t enjoy as much as most, but one cannot dispute her acting. Although I believe that is probably what she is like in real life, she played the role well, and carried that film to garner the support it now has.

Darren

Frances McDormand – Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

Well she has won everything else, why stop now.

Dean

Frances McDormand – Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

She’s been nominated for Best Supporting Actress three times and never won. However, she was nominated once before for Best Actress for Fargo in 1996 and she won. Over 20 years later and she still brings it hard. She’s no one’s supporting actress – she’s top dog. She’ll win this, not because of history but because she was brilliant in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and better than her fellow nominees.

Garth

Sally Hawkins – The Shape of Water

I’m not a fan of Shape of Water. It’s a silent movie about fish sex and the morale complexities thereof. Sally Hawkins however made it possible in all its weirdness that it’s okay to fall in love with something you don’t completely understand.

Her performance as a mute requires more facial expressions and body language than a mime trying to replicate electroshock therapy and she nailed it. She has to win.

Jeslyn

Frances McDormand – Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

Frances McDormand brilliantly plays a grieving mother. Tough, stubborn and hilarious; Frances does it all well. The combination of her and Sam Rockwell takes this movie over the top and made it one of my favourites of this Oscars season.

Mat

Margot Robbie – I, Tonya

Simply because I love that woman and hope she gets it.

PJ

Frances McDormand – Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

She is the strongest contender of the lot in my opinion

Ramz

Frances McDormand – Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

Lordy Lord Lord Lord. The only people who don’t think Francis McDormand deserves this Oscar, are the people who haven’t seen this film.

Shad

Frances McDormand – Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

I just got a weird feeling that Frances will grab the win for this…Call it a hunch…

Stephen

Frances McDormand – Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

I struggled to make a decision here, but I feel like Frances McDormand is going to take the win. Margot Robbie was a close second for me, but what McDormand does in Three Billboards is just flawless.

Tash

Sally Hawkins – The Shape of Water

She had relations with a FISH, she earned that Oscar!

Tendai

Frances McDormand – Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

To be honest, was there any competition?

Vernon

Margot Robbie – I, Tonya

This is one of the best performances I’ve seen in a long time. Its a stigma breaking effort by Margo Robbie who probably had a string of ridiculous romcoms as future roles until this raw and gritty performance. LOVED IT!!!
