Oscars Predictions 2019: Best Song
Every year there are a few songs that really stick in your head like earworms. Let’s have a look at the Oscar nominated best original songs from this year’s best films.
Darren
Shallow – A Star is Born
There’s only one horse in this race.
Dean
Shallow – A Star is Born
Of course I’d love Kendrick and Sza to take it. But I feel like Shallow was created solely to win this award. They could end up winning nothing else but Best Original Song seems locked.
Garth
Shallow – A Star is Born
I will admit that the idea of Lady Gaga, the meat-wearing lady from the Grammy’s a few years back, having something to do with winning an Oscar somehow doesn’t sit so well. The only thing I do remember however, was the song. And that’s why it got my vote!

Shallow – A Star is Born
I wasn’t the biggest fan of A Star is Born. It’s a really good movie, but it feels like there are dozens of dramas each year that are on this level. I can’t seem to point out anything specific about the craft that elevates it to a new level; except for the score and the performances of the music, most notably by Lady Gaga. Shallow is a song that definitely hits one in the feels, especially when recontextualized after the story in the film is all said and done.

All The Stars – Kendrick Lamar ft Sza
I have been behind this song since the award season started. It’s between All The Stars and Shallow (“A Star is Born”), and I feel like the Academy has to do me and hip hop a solid. I have no objectivity on this one and I really feel Kendrick Lamar gave the world great work on the soundtrack. From production to reaching out to South African artists and TDE, I am behind this song all the way. Kendrick is a living legend, the legend must continue.
Vernon
Shallow – A Star is Born
This category had me so excited at the Golden Globes, but there seems to be quite an anti-climax with who the Academy deemed eligible for this, where is Annie Lennox?? Boring. My choice is Shallow – obvie!
