Oscars Predictions 2018: Best Director

Ok ladies and gentlemen. This is the penultimate predictions post. In the lead up to the Oscars we at BTG Lifestyle have predicted some of the big winners and this post will focus on the best director for the Academy Awards 2018.

Nominees:

Caryn

Guillermo del Toro – The Shape of Water

Every direction in this film was so beautiful and selective that it literally looked like a piece of art brought to life, although del Toro’s talent has never been disputed, this film shows such growth to excellence.

Darren

Guillermo del Toro – The Shape of Water

He finally made a movie with human emotions, involving a fishman and a mute woman. Plus he won’t win both Best Director and Best Picture.

Dean

Guillermo del Toro – The Shape of Water

I think this is the year for del Toro. He only got a screenplay nomination for Pan’s Labyrinth in 2007 and that film was beautifully weird. A bunch of fun, geeky films later and he returns to the weirdness with The Shape of Water. Not everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s hard to take anything away from the direction in this film which is absolutely superb.

Garth

Guillermo del Toro – The Shape of Water

Its going to be Guillermo del Toro. End. Of. Discussion.

Jeslyn

Guillermo del Toro – The Shape of Water

I hate to say it but I’m voting for Guillermo based on his odds. I don’t doubt his work but I can’t help but wish that Jordan Peele wins this.

Mat

Jordan Peele – Get Out

Going with my gut on this one. Like I mentioned before, there’s a strong Black movement in Hollywood right now so he might just snatch this one for that reason alone.

PJ

Paul Thomas Anderson – Phantom Thread

This man is a master of the craft who could’ve picked up an Oscar for movies like The Master, There Will Be Blood, Magnolia or Boogie Nights. This is also a guy that is long overdue for a statue.

Ramz

Jordan Peele – Get Out

Because it was dope.

Shad

Jordan Peele – Get Out

As much as I would love Chris Nolan to take this, I would REALLY LOVE Jordan Peele to win. He fully deserves it too.

Stephen

Guillermo del Toro – The Shape of Water

Guillermo del Toro must win this! It’s a tough category this year, but he deserves to win it. He’s been building his way up to this for over two decades and I think he’s mastered his craft in his latest film, The Shape of Water. I’ll be really surprised if he doesn’t take the statue home on March 4th.

Tash

Jordan Peele – Get Out

He is a comedy writer/actor and he chose the horror genre for his directorial debut. Needless to say that HE NAILED IT with an outstanding film that he also wrote and produced!

Tendai

Guillermo del Toro – The Shape of Water

It’s the era of the nerds…. And the weird! del Toro has been crafting “weird” very well over the years and this project is Oscar worthy. We need a little weird in our lives but when it’s mastered the way del Toro did, you gotta give credit where credit is due.

Vernon

Greta Gerwig – Lady Bird

I have to say Greta – because I know where she was and I saw all her terrible acting and now to see this!!! I LOVED LADY BIRD!!
