Oscars Predictions 2019: Best Original Score
Some movies have such a great collection of songs that it makes you download the entire soundtrack. This is a mark of a brilliant score. It can make a visually stunning film even better by sticking with you for months after. Here are our picks for Best Original Score at this year’s Academy Awards.

Darren
Black Panther, Ludwig Goransson
This will make Black Panther the first MCU movie to win an Oscar, and it will be well deserved as it stands little chance in any of the other nominated categories.
Dean
Isle of Dogs, Alexandre Desplat
Bit of a tough one for me because I’ve been a fan of Ludwig Goransson ever since Community and I would LOVE for him to win his first Oscar, but Desplat got it right before when he teamed up with Wes Anderson on The Grand Budapest Hotel, and he hit the double with the whimsical The Shape of Water last year. I think he’s going to get his third for Isle of Dogs. Simply magical.
Garth
Black Panther, Ludwig Goransson
The beats that woke Africa. Ludwig Göransson’s Afro-centric Black Panther.

Stephen
Black Panther, Ludwig Goransson
It turns out Kendrick Lamar wasn’t the only one who made a bomb album for Black Panther. Ludwig Goransson’s score mixes elements of traditional African music with more modern orchestral tones, resulting in a dynamic score that brings joy, hyper and sadness whenever needed.
Tendai
Mary Poppins Returns, Marc Shaiman, Scott Wittman
I’ll be honest here, it’s a wildcard pick. If there’s an Oscar Mary Poppins is going to take home it’s this one. Somehow, Justin Hurwitz (“First Man”) won at the Golden Globes and was chopped at the knees by the Academy and did not receive a nomination. This opens up this category and I strongly feel Mary Poppins Returns will sneak a win.
Vernon
Isle of Dogs, Alexandre Desplat
I loved how playful this was, and very emotional. I loved the big bold trumpets from Black Panther – but its like i can hear the announcer say Isle of Dogs!!
