10 Trailers from the Past Week – Dec. Week 2

There’s been a flood of amazing new trailers, so I’m really just going to get straight into it. Enjoy the list…

The Legend of Tarzan

Okay, I need to start by saying that this looks like a great film! We’ve seen renditions of the Tarzan story being told over and over again, with very little success (except for the 1999 Disney animated film of course).

This time around Alexander Skarsgård takes on the role of Tarzan and Margot Robbie plays Jane. I feel like the character of Tarzan is very subtle in this trailer, and I hope they keep it that way throughout the film. A stoic nature is what makes this character, as he’s very reactive to the people (and animals) around him.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

The CGI-heavy trailer delivers quite a thrill for watches, and introduces Bepop (the pig dude) and Rocksteady (the rhino dude) in the next installment of the TMNT franchise.

We did a review for part one. Click here to check it out.

X-Men Apocalypse

The Apocalypse has finally arrive. After the initial images of Oscar Isaac as the X-men’s most formidable villain, Apocalypse many people were criticizing the way the character looks, even comparing him to Ivan Ooze from The Power Rangers.

Ivan Ooze Apocalypse

I still see some resemblance. Overall I thought the trailer was good, I’m very keen to see Quicksilver again, but I’m not too convinced by Sophie Turner’s American accent as Jean Grey. I still think it’s going to be  decent film either way.

The BFG (Big Friendly Giant)

Steven Spielberg is directing this film, and in case you aren’t aware, this is one of the classic tales by Roald Dahl about a giant who is not accepted by his kin because he refuses to eat kids. What a good chap! This trailer is more of a teaser, so we don’t get any details of the plot, but with Dahl source material and Spielberg at the helm, I imagine that this is going to be quite a memorable film.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

This is a brand new international trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and places more of an emphasis on The Dark side, or more specifically, the Darth Vader-obsessed Kylo Ren who seems to be the main villain in the film.

We get more Rey, Finn, BB-8 (which is the most adorable little droid who I;m so looking forward to) and of course Chewwie and Han! I’ll be seeing this movie in 1 week, and right now I feel like I can’t even wait a second long…

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niVMROrYr0w

Michelle Yeoh (who has aged even better than Ben Stiller) reprises her role as Yu Shu Lien in the sequel to martial arts classic, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. The film is entitled Sword of Destiny, which sounds exactly like the title of an old Kung Fu movie. Nevertheless, the stunts look amazing, but I definitely spotted quite a bit of CGI in the trailer. This being a Netflix film, I don’t think they will mess it up, and I’m thinking that the cult following the original film has will gladly get behind a sequel.

Jane got a Gun

All I have to say is: Natalie Portman in a Western. No but seriously, this film looks great, and so does the plot in terms of aproaching gender roles in the Western genre. In this film, Portman’s character seeks out help from an ex-lover to save her current husband from a gang out to kill him.

But she’s not asking her former lover (who appears to be played by Joel Edgerton) for him to protect her. Nope, this lady has gone some mad gun skills. I think most of the film will build up to a single showdown which is expected of Westerns. With films like Bone Tomahawk and The Hateful Eight, Westerns seem to be making quite the comeback.

Eye in the Sky

Okay, so I must advise that you don’t watch this trailer if you don’t want to know too much about the film. It stars Aaron Paul, Helen Mirren, and Alan Rickman and tackles the ethics of drone surveillance and attacks in what appears to be a very compelling way. The trailer just gives away a lot of information about the plot, so be warned…

I’m not a huge fan of some of the CGI in this film, but that aside I think the narrative tackles a very necessary conversation on the ethics of drone warfare, especially with regard to collateral damage.

Brothers Grimsby

I won’t lie, when I saw the original teaser trailer, there was a comment on the YouTube video that really resonated with me; that Sacha Baron Cohen is becoming the new Adam Sandler. However, with the latest trailer, I feel like the comedy here is actually a bit more hardcore than Sandler, and there are some really awesome people in this film, including Rebel Wilson who is just hilarious.

Band of Robbers

This looks like a nice offbeat film about a couple of hipsters who are also robbers.

I hope you enjoyed this list of trailers Don’t forget to share this post if you did. Which of these new trailers was your favourite?
