Deano’s Review

I went in with minimal expectations and was left pleasantly surprised with how much fun I had. Wonka had a few solid laugh out loud moments and I enjoyed the whimsical nature of it. Timothy Chalamet was ok in the titular role, but the villains really stole the show. If you’re looking for a fun popcorn movie, this is it.

Cineman’s Review

If you’re looking for a great, fun time at the cinema, then this film is for you. Wonka is full of laughs and wonder, and had me invested in the journey. The film works much better as an ensemble piece, with captivating heroes and villains. The one thing I just couldn’t get past, was the casting of Chalamet in the lead. I didn’t believe he was this character filled with delight and a hat full of dreams. This didn’t take away too much from the film, as the collection of characters. and the presentation of this unique and vibrant world is enough to get and keep one invested.

If you’re into musicals, Wonka is definitely for you too – it’s filled with fun songs that will have you singing your way out of the theatre. But the most enjoyable part of Wonka is that it has something for the entire family. Paul King (who also directed both beloved Paddington films) has a way of taking children’s stories (to some) and adapting them for broader audiences. This film has something for everyone in the family to enjoy.
