Oscars Predictions 2019: Best Animated Feature

With the technological advances of recent years, there has been some incredible (excuse the pun) animated films over the last few years and last year was no exception. Here’s who we think will take the Oscar for Best Animated Feature at this year’s Academy Awards.

Darren

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

The clear standout for animation in 2018, best interpretation of Spider-Man by Sony ever.

Dean

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

What a spectacle. It had everything. Thoroughly deserved.

Garth

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

A no brainer. If this doesn’t win then it’s a clear slap in the face to our dear Miles Morales.

Stephen

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

There were some cool animated films this year, including The Incredibles 2, which everyone was looking forward to for a decade and a half, but when we saw yet another Spider-Man film was on the way (I mean how many are they going to make?) nobody expected a film that would not only be one of the most original works to date, but that would raise the bar for what can be expected creatively from an animated film. Animation allows the creators to do anything without limits, and the creators of Spiderverse did just that. There are panels straight out of a comic book, unique use of captions; camera placement and movement is insanely creative from shot to shot, and the voice acting is absolutely beautifully directed and performed. It also helps that we get the Miles Morales version of Spider-Man (finally) and that the message of the film is one that so boldly stands up against the “sigh… another Spider-Man movie” rhetoric.

Tendai

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

If a two-time Grand Slam Champion and the reigning #1 women’s tennis player says this is “the best movie in recent times” then SURELY it’s a shoe-in for the nod. It’s my favourite movie of 2018! It was creative, original, fun, intense, emotional, had a mindf***, great story, outstanding casting and even featured Nicholas Cage. COME ON!!!

Vernon

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

Because it was AWESOME!!!!!
