Paris Can Wait – A Review

If you think you’re 32 and stuck in a rut, that it’s too late to learn a new language or play the piano, I would like you to know that the director of Paris Can Wait, Eleanor Coppola, is 81 years old and killing it.

Paris Can Wait - A Film Review - BTG Lifestyle

Her name sound familiar? Her husband directed The Godfather, and her daughter, Sofia Coppola was the second woman to win the Best Director award at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.

I understood that the movie is about Diane Lane going on a road trip with her husband’s business partner but I didn’t realize that that’s what the entire movie is about.

It’s less about the story than about how people relate to each other. Don’t watch this movie if you’re an action fan or if you’re in a hurry. The point of the movie is taking your time to literally smell the roses.

After watching Paris Can Wait I feel like Eleanor and I should be best friends. We love all the same things, namely; food and wine.

Diane Lane spends the entire movie eating and I’ve seen more cheese in this movie than I’ve seen in my life. There are copious amounts of wine and it just feels as if this is what life is supposed to be like.

The movie spans geographically from Cannes, in the South of France, to Paris, which should be an eight hour trip but evolves into an eating adventure.

Diane Lane who used to be Under the Tuscan Sun, probably takes these roles just so that she gets paid to live in and travel around Europe. And I don’t blame her; every scene is beautiful.

Eleanor takes us on a leisurely journey through the leafy French countryside, into beautiful museums and cathedrals and gives us a glimpse of the Eiffel Tower covered in sparkles.

I thoroughly enjoyed this relaxing movie and recommend it to foodies and people suffering from some wanderlust during this cold South African winter.
