CINEMAN’S REVIEW
Transformers: Rise of The Beasts is a good time. I went in without expectations, especially after finding out that it’s a prequel to the original Transformers films. It felt like a clean slate that’s carving out its own place in this universe. I had a blast. The film is fun, with tons of heart, and plenty amazing needle drops. The lead human characters feel like very real people. They’re fleshed out, with real backgrounds, lives and demeanours. The things they say feel authentic, and I loved that.
This film was funnier than I expected it to be, with quite a few laugh out loud moments. The crowd around me cheered, laughed and rooted for the characters. It’s also a testament to the fact that with good directing and an emotional core to it all, a big CGI battle ending actually CAN work.
Steven Caple Jr is once again displaying his ability to enhance existing franchises with clear direction and an understanding of the characters. With charming and awe-inspiring new Transformers, this film added to the tapestry of interesting characters who I’m looking forward to seeing in future instalments.

DEANO’S REVIEW
Full disclosure, I checked out of the Transformers franchise after the third movie. It just didn’t seem to work for me anymore for a myriad of reasons, but what made me want to watch this one, was the integration of the Maximals. I was a fan of the Beast Wars animated series as a kid, so I was looking forward to this installment.
It’s got some good laughs, good action, wholesome heartfelt moment and some big cheers too, especially during the climax. I also loved seeing so many people of colour in the cast, both in live action and voiceover roles. Anthony Ramos was excellent and worked really well with Dominique Fishback, both of whom are stars on the rise at the moment. Pete Davidson appeared to have a lot of fun as the voice of Mirage.
Overall a thoroughly entertaining movie.
