Oscars Predictions 2019: Best Adapted Screenplay

I was going to basically take the same intro paragraph I used last year but that would be lazy. So I adapted it. Here we go: Best Adapted Screenplay. Stories. Scripts. Words. Am I right? No but seriously, adapting a story to fit a screenplay is an artform. Here are some masters of that art, but who will win the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay?

Darren

If Beale Street Could Talk

I only think he will win here due to the fact it missed out on so many other awards, plus the Academy love Barry Jenkins.

Dean

If Beale Street Could Talk

I doubt my boy Barry Jenkins will get Best Picture this year, accounting errors and all, but I think he should grab Best Adapted Screenplay. He won it for Moonlight back in 2017 and I believe he’ll get it again. Strong competition but he edges this one for me.

Garth

BlacKkKlansman

The most Oscar nominations. Adam Driver, Spike Lee, Jordan Peele, Jason Blum and a black man and the KKK with a brilliant performance by John David Washington.
It must win.

Stephen

A Star Is Born

I struggled with this one, but if any film is going to take it, it’s going to be A Star is Born. It’s not my favourite film, but I’m pretty lukewarm on the rest in this category. Sorry, that’s all I have for you.

Tendai

BlacKkKlansman

An African American infiltrated the KKK in the 70s. The thought of it all sounds insane and not possible considering who the KKK are. And the story was written, depicted excellently and ended with a tragic ending. All of it true! People may say timing is everything and there is no better time for a book to be put on the big screen for people to know the reality around them. Charlie Wachtel, David Rabinowitz, Kevin Willmott and Spike Lee deserve the nod.

Vernon

If Beale Street Could talk

My choice is If Beale Street Could Talk, because James Baldwin is Life and Truth and because a 2019 release of this film is years overdue and they deserve the Oscar.
