V for Vendetta Day

It’s the 5th of November, and for those of you who care, that means it’s Guy Fawkes Day (or Night). And what better day than this to share one of my favourite movies with you: V for Vendetta.

The film is based on a DC Comics graphic novel by Alan Moore, and is set in a dystopian near-future history version of 90s UK.

The comics follow protagonist, V, a blatant anarchist who dons a Guy Fawkes mask. V sets in motion a detailed revolutionist campaign to overthrow the government, kill his former captors, and convince citizens to rule themselves, all the while inspiring a young woman, Evey Hammond, to be his protégé (via Wikipedia).

Here’s one of my favourite pieces of kinetic typography from this or any film:

And here’s the popular speech of the tale of Guy Fawkes:

I hope you enjoy these, and have an awesome Guy Fawkes Night. If you plan on celebrating, please be careful out there; be considerate of the animals, and use designated areas to set off your fireworks.

Oh, and here’s the official trailer for V for Vendetta:

Seriously, if you haven’t seen this movie yet, go and watch it right now!

About the Author: Stephen is a filmmaker and critic who’s not so much anarchic as he is voyeuristic.
