Guardians of the Galaxy Spoiler-free Review

Went to see Guardians of the Galaxy this afternoon, and yes, it’s a win!

The introduction of each character and the build-up is masterfully crafted, and the ending landed nicely, in a way that both satisfies the audience for now, but prepares you adequately for the possibility of a sequel too (which has already been announced).

One would expect such a high-action, visual effects-intensive movie to have a mediocre script, but hats off to James Gunn and Nicole Perlman for writing a stunning screenplay.

The way this group of misfit characters bounce off one another in conversation and action is thoroughly entertaining, and a beautiful nod to the comic books.

A lot of the humour (and there’s plenty, thankfully) is situational, often brought about through a lack of cultural understanding between the different characters, emphasising their diverse backgrounds eloquently. This is way more entertaining than characters spewing one-liners — although there’s no lack of that either.

I  must admit that The Avengers will have to step aside as the most epic super hero ensemble to grace the big screen. The Guardians of the Galaxy are here!

Oh, and did I mention that this movie has an EPIC soundtrack? Coz it does. I’m so glad they opted for all these classics.

Rating: 8.7/10

Memorable performance: I did a preview for Guardians not too long ago, and there I’d mentioned high hopes for Dave Bautista. All I can say is that the dude totally nailed it!

Favourite Character: Groot! He’s just an awesome mix of friendliness, simplicity and kindness.
