Fast & Furious 6 – Preview

Remember when it seemed as if the Fast and the Furious franchise was dying? Except for a little cameo from Dom (Vin Diesel) at the end of Tokyo Drift, none of the original cast members were featured. Not even Brian (Paul Walker) was in that film and I’m pretty sure he only makes fast and furious movies these days.

But back to my original point. This franchise has not only been revived but has been given a shot of adrenaline to the heart.

Of course it should be mentioned that since Tokyo Drift, the series has brought back the original cast members, including Jordana Brewster as Dom’s little sister Mia and Michelle Rodriguez as Dom’s girlfriend Letty.

But when Fast Five was released in 2011, the franchise included all of the more memorable characters and even added new characters such as Hobbs (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) who is tasked with hunting down Dom and Brian’s crew.

Our heroes get away with 100 million dollars and disperse, leaving us to think that this is all going to end on a happily-ever-after note, until a post-credits scene revealed that Letty, who supposedly died in Fast and Furious (the fourth installment), was actually still alive.

I know, right? I mean… I don’t even… Wow!

Fast and Furious 6 (or Fast 6 as it is being referred to) is one of the most anticipated films of 2013. Hobbs tracks Dom down and informs him of the fact that his ex is not only alive, but she’s up to no good with a new crew, headed up by a former Special Ops soldier Owen Shaw (Luke Evans). But they’re not dragging racing and shit. They’re taking down military convoys and shit.

The plan? Travel to London and take down this elite team of skilled drivers and in exchange the whole team will be granted full pardons and can return home to work in their garages and illegally street race like the good old days.

Of course, the real questions involve Letty and how in the hell is she still alive. Plus, what is up with this new crew and where do her allegiances lie?

Judging by the trailer, the latest instalment will be massive. I mean, there are tanks and bridges collapsing and towards the end of the trailer they use harpoons to actually prevent a plane from taking off. Needless to say, there will be a few “what the f#$%” moments in this one.

Why all the hype? If the previous five films have taught us anything, it is that we should expect a few extravagant action sequences, more than a few car chases, and a solid soundtrack comprising of the latest hip hop tracks.

Justin Lin – who has directed the previous three Fast and Furious films – returns to the director’s chair. Also, Jason Statham supposedly has a role in the film as Shaw’s brother. Statham in a film with a focus on precision driving – this sounds familiar.

All roads lead to this. Let’s hope Fast 6 is more action-packed and fast-paced than the previous films combined.
